Costa Launches Online Book Club at costabookawards.com

Costa, the UK's largest and fastest-growing coffee shop brand, today launches the Costa Book Club at www.costabookawards.com.

The Costa Book Club will feature a monthly book review from a range of top literary personalities including former Costa Book Awards judges and shortlisted and winning authors, of their favourite book or a book they have recently read and enjoyed.

Joanna Trollope, best-selling British author and former Chair of Judges for the Costa Book Awards in 2007, opens the book club with a review of The Towers of Trebizond by Rose Macaulay, a story describing the experiences of a group of people on a trip to Turkey.

Visitors to the site will be encouraged to post comments and submit reviews of the recommended books, share reading suggestions and there's also a chance to win copies of the featured books each month.

"We want to build a vibrant and lively interactive book community on our website where readers can go for exciting and wide-ranging reading recommendations," commented Kevin Hydes, Brand Marketing Manager at Costa. "So if you're looking for ideas for your reading group, a book to take on holiday or a just a good read to enjoy with a great cup of coffee, we hope that in time the Costa Book Club will offer something for everyone and cater for all tastes."

September's Costa Book Club will feature a recommendation from Alastair Stewart, ITN broadcaster and final judge for the 2005 Book Awards, followed by GMTV presenter, Penny Smith's, recommendation in October. Penny recently published her first novel, Coming Up Next, and was on the final judging panel in 2000.

The Costa Book Awards have the single aim of celebrating the most enjoyable books of the last year by writers based in the UK and Ireland.  Originally established in 1971 by Whitbread Plc, Costa, the UK's fastest-growing coffee shop chain, announced its takeover of the sponsorship of the UK's most prestigious book prize in 2006.
