The Handyman by Jenny Steel

We recently sponsored a short story competition with Woman & Home magazine. The winner was The Handyman by Jenny Steel.

The Judges were bowled over by Jenny's controlled style and evocative language. 'It was so poignant and beautifully written, and it ended on such a satisfying note.'

The Handyman tells the story of Betty, who advertises for a handyman. When kind, gentle Mr Jones turns up on her doorstop he seems perfect, but Betty's daughter Stella is not convinced.

Jenny Steel, a retired teacher, won the Woman & Home Short Story Competition. She lives in Bredon, Gloucestershire, with her husband Richard. They have three grown up children and three grandchildren.
